Why the medal carries this name
The Ken Allen Medal honours Ken Allen, a major figure in WA rugby league. He served Fremantle and the WARL in several roles, was a pioneer referee, and later became a life member of Fremantle, the WARL and the WA Rugby League Referees Association. The award recognises his long-term service to the local game.
Award history
Before being renamed the Ken Allen Medal in 1988, this player-of-the-year honour was known as the Brice Trophy. It later briefly carried the Rothmans Medal name before returning to Ken Allen in 1992.
